I Radio Heaven / I Get Mixed Signals

I was actually asked today not to attend my friend’s church. I had mentioned I was still looking to find a church family and maybe this Sunday I could go to her church. She then said “I would appreciate it if you tried to find your own church”.

The WHOLE point of Christianity is to invite others to worship with you, to come together in the name of God.

I told my mom about this and she just laughed. She said that I would be the person who would get univited to the service by someone on the outreach committee. (It reminds me of a strange Saturday Night Live skit or something.) She also said that just because she is acting un-Christian doesn’t mean that my response should be un-Christian.

So I just responded by saying that it’s never my or her church, it’s Christ’s church.

There’s a big difference there. Hopefully someday she will realize that.

not only does it hurt to be rejected, and not being invited is a definite form of rejection, but it really hurts being rejected from a church.

what concerns me is that she is on their visioning committee and reconcilling ministry committee.

i called the church, after much contemplation, and spoke with the pastor there. i didn't reveal her name but i did explain my experience. he was very shocked and apologetic. he said he was sad that she didn't understand the concept of christianity or the holy covenant. he was sorry i received 'bad news' from her instead of 'good news'.

i said that i think it would be wise to discuss with the congregation what it means to be involved in a church, what being a good "christian" entails, the importance of outreach, the importance of inclusion.

i will look into other churches.

but it does worry me the state of "the church" and the concept of "church" that the church leaders have.
