Your Eyes Have Their Silence

another one of my favorites by e.e. cummings:

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose

or if your wish be to close me,i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

The Deepest Secret Nobody Knows

today i am giving you poetry. here's one of my favorite poems, by e.e.cummings:

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Just Cuz

Here's a photo of John on my favorite t.v. show. No particular reason why I'm posting it, i just am.
Doesn't he seem like the type of guy who would bring you soup if you were sick? I bet he would bring tomato soup. And he would bring along a couple of movies from Blockbuster and maybe a box of Kleenex.

Yeah, he seems like that type of guy.

I'm going home in an hour to sleep. achoo!

Wildlife Warrior

I just finished watching the Barbara Walter's Special on Steve Irwin. His wife, Terri, told the story of how they met and how he proposed marriage. She also told some very touching stories about life with Steve and all the while her face was grief stricken. She kept breaking down into tears but she continued to tell the stories. I could tell how important it is to her that those stories are told.
I kept wiping tears from my face but I continued listening to her stories because I think it's important those stories are heard.
I find it terribly sad that such an amazing and enthusiastic conservationist and person has been lost, but more so, I am sad about the heartache Terri and his two children are feeling.

I never knew him or Terri personally but my heart just splits and breaks wide open when I see someone in so much pain.

Laughter is the Best Medicine

I am currently drinking an Odwalla C Monster and taking Echinacea every 2 hours. I also had some Airbourne last night (gag, gag). So I'm fighting these germs with every vitamin out there!
And if that doesn't work, well reading this just might do the trick:
(an excerpt from Go Fug Yourself, the most hilarious blog in the world)

TOM: Kate, what do you think of my hair?

KATIE: It's amazing.

TOM: I set the Flowbie to stun. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA. No, seriously, I actually just set it to "long." You don't think I look like a boy-bander? I think I look like a boy-bander. A little bit. A little boy-bandy.

KATIE: You look amazing.

TOM: What about my suit? Do you like my suit? Is my suit too movie-premiere-y for a soccer game?

KATIE: Your suit is amazing. Everyone wears Gucci to their child's soccer game. Gucci is amazing.

TOM: Are you being sarcastic?

KATIE: I haven't been sarcastic in 18 months. My head hurts too much.

TOM: Have some vitamins!

KATIE: Uh-huh.

TOM: WHAT'S THAT?

KATIE: Vitamins are amazing. Scientology rocks.

Higher Art

Being that I am sick, I have the motivation of an aardvark right now. (I have no idea what that means, either.) So in the spirit of procrastination I have decided to spend the past 30 minutes reading blogs. In particular, I caught up on Jake's blog.
Jake, a friend of mine from high school, posted his doodlings onto his website. (this is how grad. students pass the time in boring lectures, i suppose.) And perhaps it's the Vitamin C high I'm on right now, but I found these absolutely hysterical.
Thanks, Jake, for distracting me from work and making all my co-workers think I'm drunk.

Superpowers

Last night I watched the first episode of Hereos. I have a feeling I will be watching this show fairly regularly (I was hooked when the opening sequence had the title "Genesis"). But, does anyone else feel like NBC might be ripping off LOST just a bit? The supernatural theme is nothing new, but the comic book plot reminds me of Walt's comics on LOST.
Well, I guess if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

Anyone else watch it? Anyone else disgusted when the cheerleader pushed her own ribs back into her body?

Also, I'm sick today. Blah. If I had a superpower I would will myself healthy right now. Colds suck.

S'mothers

Directions on making the perfect S'mother:
burn marshmallow to a crisp (should take about 15 seconds)
listen to family get grossed out by your marshmallow
have angie smother some peanut butter on a graham cracker
have angie sprinkle chocolate chips on peanut butter
add marshmallow
and eat!

**i love it when angie and i get to giggling so much all the guys just walk away and leave us to our laughter**

Grilling Out

Grilling out at my dad's. Homemade pickles, homemade potato chips, tomatoes from the garden, fresh melon and burgers...yum!

Prayer Request

Alrighty, I gotta ask for some prayers again. This weekend, when I was in Iowa, I learned that my grandmother is having some heart troubles. I already knew her heart wasn't doing so well, but now we know that three of her valves aren't working properly. So they are going to have to perform open heart surgery to fix all three valves.
One of the side effects of her heart not working is that she has lost a lot of weight. I believe she is down to about 92 pounds. She's a pretty frail looking lady but I also know she is a very strong woman (in character and principle) and she has a very strong sense of faith.
None the less, it's major surgery and she is physically weak right now.

Tomorrow she is having an angeogram (sp?). It's when they thread something (a camera maybe?) through her vein in her leg in order to get a better view of her heart. After that procedure they will decide when to schedule the surgery.

So I could use some prayers. Not only for my grandmother's health but also for my step-dad, Jerry. This must be pretty frightening for him and I'm sure he's worried. And knowing Jerry, he's doing a lot of praying himself.
So if you could keep him in mind too, I would appreciate it.

I will post photos of this past weekend, later on today. Thanks!

Cominsky Park

Last night, Adam took me to a White Sox game. It was the annual outing for the studio he works at. I have never watched a game from Box Seating before! It was a lot of fun.
(And the limo ride to and from the park sure was swanky!)
