“Though it’s hard to face, we must look at it. Because it is the truth.” -Avijit
I watched “Born into Brothels” last night, and was moved to tears. Usually films do inspire me, but this one was more inspirational than usual. It made me wish I would have stuck with The Peace Corp instead of going into corporate America. Oh well, hind sight is 20/20. Mike is currently in India, and should be coming back to the States in a week or so. Once I get some photos, I will post them up for everyone to see. (I love that my friends are world travelers.) Anyway, here is another documentary that I am recommending to everyone. Netflix “Born into Brothels”.
Now I am just waiting for “Inside Deep Throat” to be released. I think it’s due out in September sometime.
Josh- I had someone tell me on Tuesday night that I look like Maggie Gyllenhaal. I immediately thought of you. Are you in North Carolina yet? When does filming begin?
I could not get to sleep last night at all. My mind started on my upcoming job transfer and just kept running until I was thinking about whether I should move to Kansas City or stay in Chicago. (How my brain works is a puzzle to everyone.) And I kept thinking about next week and how terrified I am to skydive. And then my thoughts drifted into this topic: what defines a date? My mom asked me this the other day and I wasn’t really able to answer the question. She asked if “hanging out” is “going on a date”. I said I had no idea, but I usually figure it out about an hour into the “hanging out”. And if you “hang out” during the day, is that a date? What constitutes dating, now a days? I feel bad for the guys out there, because I think it would be damn near impossible to say “hey, you want to go on a date sometime?” Maybe that’s why you hear “you want to hang out sometime” more often.
But how does a girl decipher if the guy is talking about hanging out as friends or going on a date? Do you just wait till the time comes and see how it goes? Are there subtle clues that can help crack the code? Do you always assume that it’s a date? Do guys prefer to say “hanging out” so in case the night go badly, they can cop out and say they just wanted to hang as friends?
Can you see now why I had trouble sleeping last night?
And I love technology as much as the next nerd, but it’s also a strange way to connect with a person without having to actually connect. (Sadia and I were just discussing this the other day.) I mean, why call a person and put yourself through an awkward phone conversation, when you can just email. Or even better, text message. You don’t have to write full sentences and it’s so brief it’s like the exchange of words didn’t even occur. So in order to set up a time to meet, you can do it with the least amount of interaction possible.
God, I am tired today.

i just remembered that people read this blog. and by people i mean other people than Laine, Brian, Ray, Josh, and my mom (when she doesn't lose the link).
when i was a junior in high school, my mom read my diary and i was grounded for a year. yes people, and entire year. to her credit, i was boozing it up as a 15 year old, smoking on a daily basis, and getting stoned about once a week. and granted as soon as she would unground me i would go get trashed with brian cochran, smoke cigarettes till my gums bled, and then cap the night off by getting stoned on some gravel road. and when the cops would call my folks place at 3am, i would then get grounded again.
but i digress, my diary = grounded for one year.
that year makes me hesitant to write my actual thoughts/feelings on this thing. cause people will read this, and judge, and possibly change their mind on some things.
i ask all readers to not be too harsh with me. i am just trying to write down my honest thoughts...no matter how girly, dirty, confused, heartbroken, scared, pissed off, bored, kinky, angry, or brilliant they are.
it's official. it was a date. and a great one at that.
:)
i'm a happy girl.
screw this. i'm off guys.
