What We Talk About When We Talk About Love

You and Me and Him and Her

Last night, Kurt and I went to Acme Art Works to hear Alex perform Spoken Word. The gallery was also displaying her artwork. I am grateful I was able to celebrate that moment with her.
Now, would you like to buy a tanning package?

I refuse to support the work of someone who is mean to me. I can not stop you from reading this blog, but I can stop myself from reading those emails. So just save us both the trouble and stop writing me.

My sincere apologies to those readers who are kind to me, and who are reading this posting. This is not directed towards you.

Olivia and The Subs

My bowling team has commitment issues. Last night I was the only actual Lebowski that bowled, thankfully Jesse and Mike offered to sub in this week.

Jimmy had the brilliant idea of taking photos while bowling. So the self-portraits were taken with our left hands while our right hands rolled the ball down the lane. (Which is a lot more difficult to do, than it sounds.)

And next time I promise not to wear such an open shirt. (Sorry mom! I am much more of a lady than this photo depicts.) If I keep this up, I will have to start charging people to view this website.

Truce

I know that some loyal readers of my blog are participating in a silent protest (aka not posting comments anymore) due to my posting titled "88 Years", which celebrated the White Sox winning the World Series. So here is a photo of Wrigleyfield.
Go Cubs!!

Truce?

On the Same Page

Kurt and I saw "Capote" last night. It is an incredible film and I would highly recommend seeing it.
And then I would highly recommend seeing Kurt do an impersonation of Capote. It's dead on and will keep you chuckling for hours.

Karla - after you see this film, please tell me if you agree that the overlooked heroine of the film is Harper Lee. I love her character and I love that a female author is portrayed in such a light. Throughout the story she showed grace, compassion, and wisdom. Now I wish they would make a film about her.

Also, the campaign for "Get Olivia to Move to the East Village" has begun. After the film, we enjoyed a couple of drinks at The Inner Town Pub. I love small pubs like that, almost as much as I love the conversations had in small pubs like that. Even if the ATM machines are faulty (or perhaps it's the drunken patron that is faulty).

Next time, I'm bringing the camera.

I Must Have Gotten Dressed in the Dark

Things to note about my appearance today:

1. My socks have snowmen on them.
2. I am now rocking a mullet. No idea where it came from, but I woke up this morning and it was’ business in the front and party in the back’. Haircut is on Thursday, so I am only rocking it for another 48 hours.
3. Clogtastic!
4. I am wearing a long scarf today and when I sit down, the ends fall on the floor. Earlier today, without thinking, I rolled back in my chair and practically strangled myself. I figure it’s a matter of hours before someone walks by and finds me passed out on my keyboard, my scarf tangled up in the wheels of my chair.
5. The guy at Borders called me “sir”. That can’t be good.

Both Hands

We sipped cocoa and savored conversation.
Love and love and love, my friend.

The Art of Autumn

Later That Night...

Absolutely no Republicans were harmed in the making of this blog.

I'm the Devil Tonight

Let me start by saying that I was very impressed with The Regel's show at The Cubby Bear. It's always a little nerve-racking seeing your friend's band for the first time, because what if you don't like their music? But thank goodness I didn't have to worry about that, because they snagged me with their first song "Devil Tonight". I later learned that it's a newer song, but man was I impressed. (Word has it that The Regels are back in the studio this winter, so I know there are many people eagerly awaiting a new album in 2006).

Now I was given the challenge of trying to figure out who they sound like, and although I don't claim to know every band out there, I have listened to my fair share of music. I can honestly say, they don't really sound like one type of band. I would classify them as rock and roll, with a bit of southern/blues sound layered in. The harmonica was a great addition to the music, and I hope to see it in more songs down the road.

I think anyone at the bar would admit that there is an easy, undeniable stage presence with The Regels. Perhaps it's Jimmy's towering figure, or the bright, teal blue of his guitar, either way, when they are on stage they have everyone's undivided attention. I did many scans of the crowd throughout the set, and most people were stopping to watch the band. Patrons were ending their conversations and ignoring their cell phones to stand and listen to the music. That says something in itself.

So unfortunately I can't sum them up with a "they sound exactly like..." but I can say that if you like rock and roll, alternative rock, or country rock, you will find a place within The Regels. And although it can be frustrating not having something to compare them too, it's refreshing to have a new sound all unto itself. And as a music lover, I find that very exciting.

On a Side Note

Two things -

First, thank you Matthew for inducting me into the Romance Embargo. I am in search of a pot belly pig as we speak. Tonight our brilliant minds will come together over cider and we will devise a plan to take over the world. Can't wait... (and yes, Laine, the top of our list is that margarita pipeline I informed you about the other day.)

**Last night he mentioned not getting me a good Christmas present this year...doesn't he know that he gave me THE BEST GIFT I HAVE EVER RECEIVED last year? Seriously, he never has to buy me a gift again for the rest of his life, and he will still be the king of gift giving.**

Second, I got a card yesterday in the mail. I love getting mail that isn't a bill. And I was so excited to see that it was from my friend Tony (who never sends me cards!). I opened up the card and on the inside was written the following note:

"Unscramble this: U S T L"

Tony - with friends like you, who needs fuck buddies!?! :)

Now it's your turn:

Unscramble this: C O K C S U C K R E

love you too - you whore.

Books and Notes

This is the new book I am reading. I've heard rave reviews about it, so I am excited to dive in!

Also, here is a random email I got from my friend Tony. He kills me.

Hiya. Hey, the number I have for you does not work anymore. New one, or
are you so addicted to meth that you can't pay a phone bill?
Up yours,
Tony

Telling Ghost Stories

Here's to the macaroni that we did not eat and the cider that we did not drink. That moment was lovely, my old friend.
