Girl and the Goat

Some things are worth the hype.  Others, are not.
Chris and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary last week.  Marriage is totally worth the hype and I've really been blessed to have Chris as a husband.  He's such a great partner - intelligent, supportive, funny, hard-working, loyal, and honest.  There is absolutely no one else I would rather spend my time with.  :)

Girl & The Goat, on the other hand, is not worth the hype.  This is the hottest place to dine in Chicago right now.  The restaurant opened over a year ago and it's still difficult to get reservations.  I made our reservations back in June and the only time they could seat us was at 4:45pm.  It was the earliest dinner I think I've ever eaten.
The restaurant looks beautiful and the service is top notch.  But the food, although funky, just didn't taste that great to Chris or I.  We ordered a variety of small plates to share: warm marinated olives, pan fried shishito peppers, chickpea fritters, wood oven roasted pig face, apple pistachio smacks, and a roasted goat loin.  For dessert we had pumpkin pie gelato and goat cheese ice cream with blueberries, both from Black Dog Gelato.

The olives were good (it's kind of hard to screw up olives though).  The Chickpea fritter was good and the Apple Pistachio smacks were good.  Everything else was meh.  We didn't even finish the peppers.  The pig face, their signature dish, was okay but nothing amazing.  I'm not sure why there is so much hype about the dish except maybe people like gloating that they ate 'pig face'?  The goat loin was fun but a pretty tough cut of meat (think the kind of consistency when you order a steak medium well).  The gelato was great but then again, the people at Girl and the Goat didn't make it.

I honestly would recommend passing at eating at this restaurant.  I may be in the minority here, because it seems like every foodie in Chicago is dying to eat here, but there are so many great restaurants in this city...I would suggest dining at a place where every single bite you eat is amazing.  Not sure which places to go?  May I suggest Province, Publican, or Prasino's.
