Lolla - Day 2

After The Regels finished their set, I jetted down to Grant Park to see Wolfmother (pink stage) and Gnarles Barkley (blue stage). Wolfmother was a pretty good set but I was most excited for Gnarles Barkley. They came out dressed as tennis players (head bands and all) and they announced that Gnarles Barkley couldn't show up today but they were a cover band that was going to sing all of the Gnarles Barkley songs for us. :)
I was really surprised there was a live string section! Everyone was very high energy on stage. I do wish that Danger Mouse would have been more interactive but besides that he was awesome.
The field was PACKED for this set. It was a great show and I'm so glad I was able to see them live.

The Regels

I started my Saturday out by checking out The Regels, who were playing at Retro at Roscoe. Jimmy, the lead singer, is a good friend of mine and they put on a great show!

Lolla - DCFC (I'll Follow You Into the Dark)

The headlining act was Death Cab for Cutie. I met up with Sarah, Brian, and others to jam out to the show. Brian and I ended up grabbing our beers and venturing up to the stage and we got pretty close!
These pictures make it obvious that I was wearing SPF NE (not enough). :)

"Ba ba, ba ba, this is the sound of settling..."

Lolla - Raconteurs

This set was one of my absolute favorites yesterday. The band is incredible live and Jack White did some guitar solos that were beyond awesome. The best surprise of their show was when they did a cover of "Crazy" by Gnarles Barkley. The crowd went wild and we all started dancing around. Yeah!!!!

Lolla - Day 1

Day 1 and I ended up checking out shows I hadn't planned on. Who I saw: Aqualung (very cool), Panic at the Disco! (fun, high energy but there dancers were a rip off of the Killer's video), Editors (really good!), Ryan Adams (great show and i can report he didn't fall off the stage), Lady Sovereign (ok, high energy but not that impressive - which happens when hip hop/rap uses a live band), The Raconteurs (best show of the night!!!), Sleater-Kinney (great show and their last one ever) and Death Cab for Cutie (Ben is always awesome!).

**On a side note, Jimmy and I were talking about the state of music now a days. There seems to be a ton of great bands out there but they shine for about a month and then get replaced so quickly. Here are some examples of bands that had a lot of hype and then vanished: Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Arctic Monkeys and Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah. All were HUGE and now...they're gone. Is alt. music (or "complaint rock" as my friend, Matt A., calls it) becoming more like pop music, where you need to churn out albums on an annual basis in order to keep your head above water?
DJ Matty B from the "O.C." - i would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this.**

Opening Weekend

It's opening weekend for Talladega Nights! So everyone should take time this weekend and head to the nearest movie theater to see this film!
Even if you are a person that only goes out once a year to see a film (Laine) or if you are a person who has seen it a million times already (Josh) or if you are anyone else reading this blog (you) - go see this movie!

Yeah, Josh! Have a safe trip back from Charlotte!

Retro Regels

The Regels are playing Retro at Roscoe this weekend! Saturday at 2:30pm, you can rock out with Jimmy and the guys to some great tunes and then after you can walk my neighborhood and support the local businesses. (Or you can go to Bob's and drink beer.)
If you need a break from the heat of Lolla, take the brown line over to Roscoe and Damen and support some great music.

And feel free to fall in love with the song "Devil Tonight", I know I did!!

Break a leg, Jimmy!!

Ass-Face

Last night, Ash, Sarah, Andrea and I got together for game night. It was a blast! The game was Scattegories, the letter rolled was "A", the clue was "Nickname". Sarah and I both wrote down "Ass-face". Brilliant. :)
