National Arrogance Day! - Laine

Well – it’s been another great year for me. Things are going great, and they’re only getting better – the future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades.

I just returned from a trip to Italy. I got to see Rome, Pompeii, Florence, and Venice. The trip was awesome and I got to see everything that I have always wanted to see: The Colloseum, the Roman Forum, The Vatican, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, a wine and olive oil making castle in the Chianti region, The Grand Canal, St. Peter’s Basilica, The Doge’s Palace, and so much more. It was the trip of a lifetime!

Work has been going great as well. Starting last July I have been the sole program manager for my division and honestly the program is running better now than it ever has. Alone, I am doing the work of two people better than what three people could do. My customers are happy (they tell me they can’t live without me), and I am able to manage the program while I am traveling (from time-to-time) for work as well. I can type messages hella-fast on my blackberry – more cool points for me.

I ran a ½ marathon over Labor Day last year. I planned my own training schedule, stuck to it for over 12 weeks (which included waking up at 5am on Sundays and running in Houston in the summer. Let me repeat that, because that is a really important point. I ran in Houston in the summer), and then ran the ½ marathon in New Hampshire. It was the Swanzey Covered Bridges 1st Annual ½ marathon. I ran the entire time and finished the race in less than about 2.5 hours. While in the area we also visited Vermont, which is one of the most beautiful states. But really, any state that I am in is beautiful.

Most recently I have also shared the greatness of National Arrogance Day to one of our Canadian friends – hence changing the holiday forever, because now, technically, it is International Arrogance Day. It’s like everything I touch turns to gold.

On this, National Arrogance Day, I have been asked to bless the occasion with an entry that will, obviously, outshine all others.

Since I am from Canada, and I am the first International participant of National Arrogance Day, it shall forever now be known as INTERNATIONAL Arrogance Day as a direct result of me. As well, the word INTERNATIONAL shall hereafter be spelled in all caps, in honour of me, it’s most gracious participant. Oh, you don’t know me. I’m Craig. That’s all you need to know in order to feel fulfilled, there, isn’t that better? Mmmmmm. You like that, don’t you. I knew you would. I have that affect on women. And men, oddly enough.

As this will be new to Canada (as many things are these days – the ‘internet’? what’s up with that? Glad I brought it here) I will inform all the other Canadians by the best Canadian means possible, nailing a note to a tree. Yes, here in the land of beavers and trees and lakes, we too, have communication. Who needs email when you have trees? Trees grow! Can email do that? NO……! You can clearly see why Canada is clearly a superior country. And free health care. And did I mention vast tracts of land? When I say vast, I mean VAST. We’re like huge, seriously.

One last thing. If we were to make morning after eggs, and only if someone was able to be lucky enough to receive them, they would be without a doubt, the best fuckin’ morning after eggs, ever. Period. Why? Because, they’d be Canadian.

Enjoy the day.

Until Olivia emailed me, I forgot National Arrogance Day was today; I thought it was on Friday. It’s probably because that’s when it would fit best in my schedule.

It’s been another great year for me. Each one is better than the next. I think part of that is because I get better looking every year. That’s not the case with everyone, you know. Check out the pictures from your 10 year reunion, if you have one. I didn’t go to mine (I’m so much better than those people) but I did look at the pictures online and laugh at everyone. It’s good for an ego boost, that’s for sure!

Last July we got an apartment with some friends of ours, another married couple. Since they’ll never read this site, I can be honest and tell you all that the apartment was okay, but it would’ve been *much* cuter if I had decorated it. I have a way of mixing things that is very warm and appealing. You’ll see what I’m talking about if you ever see our new apartment, which we’re moving to this weekend. (Our complex is so glad to keep us as residents – they love us!) Olivia, I should send you some pictures once we’re settled so you can post them! Maybe they would give some of you ideas for your own places. Also, I pride myself on my good housekeeping. Some have said that my cleaning is a sign of obsessive-compulsive disorder. That’s crazy! What do they know? I could never live in their dirty apartments.

I celebrated my nine year wedding anniversary in November. We’ve made it longer than most couples! It really doesn’t surprise me though. I’m very easy to live with.

I sent out an awesome Christmas letter this year. I wrote it quiz style. I got so many compliments! True, I found the idea on a website, but I was the only one of all of my friends smart enough to actually do it. I’ll bet all of them will do quiz newsletters this year. I don’t mind. I’m used to people copying me.

I celebrated my 30th birthday in February. Pete took me to Disney World; we had a great time. If any of you are ever planning a trip there, you should definitely talk to me before you book anything. I’m a Walt Disney World expert. I love it there. I know about everything there is to know. Just try and stump me because you can’t.

Pete got accepted to Duke University’s PhD program in Religion in April. This sounds like a point about him, but really it’s about me. I’ve supported him through school for 6 years. He did the academic part, but he could’ve never done it without me. I make sacrifices for him all the time just so he can be happy. It feels amazing, and hey – I’m doing great things for my karma, right?

In May, I threw a kick-ass graduation party for Pete and my roommates. I decorated the apartment and bought all the food and alcohol. We had a lot of really yummy appetizers and cupcakes for dessert. I make great snack food, and my cupcakes are THE BEST! No one has ever disliked anything that I’ve made. It’s too bad that all of you are all over the US (and Canada) because you would love coming to one of my parties. I’m a great hostess!

I’ve got a lot going on this summer. I’m going to Atlanta to visit my friend Heather next weekend. She’s so excited that I’m coming! We’re going to do some drinking together. I’m a lot of fun when I’m drunk. I get dancey, and I’m a super cute drunk dancer. I’m not one of those people who get all sloppy or mean. Alcohol takes my personality and multiplies it by like 100. It’s awesome.

I’m going on a cruise in August. I’m a little disappointed because I’ve started some medication that has made me gain about 5 lbs. (not that I look fat or anything) and I wish I was a little thinner since I’ll be in a bathing suit a lot. I’m trying to look at the positive side, though. I’ll still look better than most people, and I’ll look more approachable if I look more “average”. I wouldn’t want anyone to think I’m snobby because I’m not. I’m the most down-to-earth, smart, loving, caring, humble person you’ll ever meet!

Happy (Inter)National Arrogance Day!

okay, so I know that technically the holiday is over, however I received these emails today. the first from our CMO and the 2nd from our CEO ---- I RULE!!!

CMO
I must also take this opportunity to thanks Laine Cipolla and her tireless efforts to please and delight these guys. Laine has done an exceptional job in finessing us through the dangerous waters of getting rid of our under performing dealers and has done an even better job in keeping our existing partners happy and growing their business.

CEO
Very encouraging! And I would also add my appreciation to Laine for doing such a great job with our dealers and representing Cardtronics so professionally!!
