Vertigo

Adam and I went and saw Loomis play a set at Bar Vertigo last night. I decided to snap photos of the Alfred Hitchcock decor and despite what Adam says, I don't think he looks stoned in this photo.
But seriously, I pushed too many buttons on my camera and now my flash is on "super-blinding bright". I gotta figure out how to change it back.
Sigh. Someday I may just have to break down and read the instruction manual.

The Passion of The Mel

Does anyone else think that this guy is full of shit? I caught some clips of his interview with Diane Sawyer and he kept going on about how he's suffering and struggling with the disease of alcoholism. (I wouldn't be surprised if he makes a comment about how the media has crucified his reputation.) Then he kept reiterating that the alcohol was to blame for the anti-semite remarks he made last summer. (Now, is blaming the beverage the equivelant of taking responsibility for your actions/words? I don't think so.)
And then he said he's been sober for 50 some odd days, but back on Oct. 5th, this report was released:
New York, Actor-director Mel Gibson, who sought help for his alcoholism just two months ago, was seen drinking again in Austin, Texas.
According to contactmusic.com, a source said: "I couldn't believe my eyes. Gibson was swigging a Bud with two adoring young women hanging on his every word."
The source added that there were about 75 people at the bar but Gibson and his friends had some space for themselves. Another source confirmed and said: "He definitely was drinking Budweiser. I saw him."
Gibson was arrested in July for drunk driving and launching into an anti-Semitic rant at his arresting officers. He was in Texas for the screening of his new movie "Apocalypto".

I feel like this interview with Diane is more of a PR stunt for his soon to be released film, "Apocalypto", and I don't think he's changed his opinion on Jews, I just think he's backpeddling.

Bowling Oil

Last night was the first game of this fall's bowling season. It felt good to slip my feet into a pair of bowling shoes that at least 15,000 other people have used before me.
I bowled the best game I have ever bowled, last night. As the opposing team inquired if I bowl year round, as an explanation for the high score, I simply said "nope, it's the bowling oil that's doing it".

The bowling oil of the night was Miller Lite. :)

(oh yeah: I'm "Amy" on the screen)

Trust Yourself

Have you ever bought something and then thought to yourself, maybe it's not as cool as I thought it was?
Well about 2 months ago I bought a necklace. It's super long, gold chain, with crystal beading. I thought it looked pretty cool but then when I got it home I began to doubt my purchase.
Today I decided to give it a try. So I threw on some grey pin-striped slacks, a plum colored top with a black sweater, my red shoes, and this long necklace. And all morning I've been getting compliments on my outfit. Who knew!?!
My boss came over and said "You look beautiful today!" and then she had other people step over to see my shoes and necklace. I was blushing and didn't really know what to say.
And then I had someone stop me in the hallway to say something about my outfit. Then she specifically mentioned my necklace. This stuff NEVER happens to me! :)

But I am making a mental note to myself, I need to trust my sense of style more!

Alrighty, back to work...

Friday Night Festivities

I'll be damned if I let a few creeps keep me from doing what I love. The blog stays!!

So, here are pics from Friday night. Michelle, Tim, Jimmy, Amy and I checked out The US Beer Company (which is where The Regels have a concert on Oct. 28th). The space was good but the band playing that night was not.
So we slipped out of there and headed over to The Abbey Pub to check out Adam and crew bring some honky-tonk to the city. Yee-haw!

To Blog or Not to Blog. That is the Question.

I am debating whether or not I should continue blogging. I enjoy maintaining the blog, especially when I get to update with photos, but I'm beginning to feel that the reason I began blogging is no longer valid.
I began my blog so I could keep in contact with my friends around the country (Sadia in San Fran, Laine in Houston, Juli in NY, my friends in L.A., and my family in Iowa), but I am beginning to feel that more strangers, or at least people I don't want contact with, are reading my blog.
So what to do?

While I continue mulling this over, and I would appreciate your feedback if you have any, I do have a small request. My grandma had open heart surgery last week and at first the doctor's said the surgery went well, but I got word yesterday that she's grown pretty weak. Her heart actually stopped yesterday but they got it going again. And she's bleeding internally, somewhere (they don't know where the bleed is but I'm assuming it's her heart). On Saturday she needed one transfusion, which isn't too bad, but yesterday she needed two. Which means not only is bleeding continuing but it sounds like it's getting worse.
So if you wouldn't mind keeping her in your thoughts, I would appreciate it. And while you're at it, maybe keep my step-dad in your thoughts too. I am sure this is hard on him.

Thanks y'all!

LOST Premiere Party

The LOST premiere was last night and my girlfriends and I gathered at Andrea's brand-spankin-new condo to watch. The show was good but her apartment (and her view) is so pretty I feel it deserves to posted. Thanks for the Sprite and a big Happy Birthday, Andrea!!

Goin' on a Shinebender

Amy and I went to Joe's on Weed St. to check out Adam's band. Dan Whitaker and The Shinebenders opened up for a country-rock musician named Eric Church. (Josh, any relation?)
It was so much fun! Thanks for coming out Amy!

**but going out last night triggered another night of coughing. so i'm going to the doctor this afternoon for drugs. i'm sick of being sick.**
Don't forget - tonight is the season premiere of LOST!!!

40 Days and 40 Nights

It rained a lot here last night. So much of the city and burbs are currently flooded, including the soccer fields near my work. My office building had a roof leak last night so the east wing of the building is flooded. My co-worker's basement flooded last night, so she's home trying to pump water out before tonight's rainfall.
And I realized that I have stuff stored in my basement. All my China, which could easily be washed and probably wouldn't sustain much damage from water. All my Christmas stuff, which would probably need to be tossed. Which is really too bad cause I just bought a new stocking and tree skirt last year which I love and would hate to get rid of. But worse, and I mean MUCH worse, is all my books. I mean ALL my books are down there.
Granted, I did keep my signed copy of Beloved upstairs, so that would be safe. But there must be a couple hundred books down there. And if they got wet, they would be ruined.
I called my landlord and left her a message asking if there was any flooding. Keep your fingers crossed that we were spared.

Ugh...my books. :(

**This just in - NO FLOODING!! The books are safe!!**

Brunch and Bluegrass

Sunday morning was Adam's birthday brunch and bluegrass music at The Horseshoe. Then Adam and I went for a nice long stroll up and down the boulevards of Logan Square. The weather was so beautiful today! The only downside, since that nice long stroll, I can't seem to stop coughing. The coughing has brought on a stomach ache and a headache. Sigh. Will I ever get over this stupid cold?

Happy Birthday!

Adam and I had a private pub crawl to celebrate his birthday. Happy Birthday, Red! (Whiskey is no one's friend.)
