Chapstick

On Friday afternoon I realized I had run out of chapstick and it was about 3 1/2 hours before I could make it to a Walgreens to buy another tube. Those were the longest 3 1/2 hours of my life.

Chapstick - I wish I knew how to quit you!

Victory thru Violence

I listened to NPR on my way in to work this morning, and obviously the main topic of news is the death of Al-Queda leader, al-Zarqawi.
I fully understand the evil in this man. I know that he has been the cause of extreme violence and torture to many people around the world. I know he personally beheaded at least two live, human beings. What sort of person does that? I don't understand, and can't wrap my mind around, what it must take to be capable to perform such horrific acts on another person.
But I must say I didn't feel all that great hearing we dropped 2 500lb. bombs on the house he was in. They first dropped 1 500lb bomb and then flew back over the area and dropped another 500lb bomb.
500lbs.
Is this a time to think of "it's a means to an end"? Should I feel ok that we are killing these terrorists but doing it in a way that is also very violent? A 500lb bomb doesn't just destroy the house it's dropped on. It must impact surrounding homes, buildings, etc. Who was in those areas? Those people weren't mentioned on NPR this morning. He was in a house, not a cave in the desert, so I assume that there were other homes around the one he was in.
I'm glad he is no longer capable of performing such evil acts but I don't really feel good, or proud, right now. Maybe that's the truth of war.

7 1/2% Irish

Dan and I ventured over to Flat Top Grill, on Southport, last night. (I didn't realize how close that neighborhood is to where I live.) It was a great time and the food was really good! I don't think I've met a perkier lady than the hostess there, then again I would rather have perky than snobby.
I would recommend this restaurant for those who haven't eaten there before. :)

Words of Wisdom

Words of Wisdom from Maya Angelou:

When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

Don't live outside the sphere that God has intended for you.

Where in the World is Sky?

Sky, aka Mitch Rowland, emailed me from Europe the other day. He went to Aarhus about a week ago and took this photo. He's hanging out there for another week or so before he heads back to Copenhagen.
I have no idea where Aarhus is...but it looks neat.

Laine - I'm eager for your Italy pics!

Mr. Right, Where are You?

Now, I don't think this is too much to ask for.

I want a man who is honest, like Abe Lincoln.

I want a man who is funny, like Vince Vaughn.

I want a man who is smart, like Steve Jobs. (A good mix of techie nerd and graphics genius.)

I want a man who has a strong faith, like my mom.

Now, seriously...where the hell is this guy?

Summer Pub Crawl (Without the Crawl)

The following three posts are photos I took at my party, this past Friday night. I was really happy with the turnout and had such a blast the entire night through. It was great at 7pm just sitting around a couple of tables and chatting about break-ups, freedom, and what chicks like in a guy. Ashley's friend was in town, before she headed over to Boston, and I had a blast getting to know her.
I knew the night was set for a great pace when we opted to take over the back of the bar. We abandoned the three tables we had pulled together and instead congregated around the pool table. Some ventured to do shots but I stuck with my beer and was really glad for that decision. At some point a group of people also rounded around the bar, just sitting and chilling out. (I actually did some slam poetry at that bar.)
By midnight we had spread out and pretty much had taken over the entire bar, including the juke box. Those Brits love Mary J Blige!!
Thanks to everyone who came and hung out. It was great catching up with friends I hadn't seen in awhile. It was nice getting to know new people. And I always love making new memories with my friends.
Love you all!

Perfect Timing

Seriously, God has an awesome sense of humor!
Just in time!! This Friday, June 2nd, the film "The Break-Up" is being released! (And if we all think real hard we might just remember what June 2nd is.)
My good friend, Murry, is in the film so everyone should go out and support him. (He's the guy with the glasses in the band.)
*I almost had a dangling modifier there. whew!*

It looks hilarious and it's a perfect tribute to my life! Woot!
*Here's a shout out to my ladies and all their never-ending support: Mom, Angie, Karla, Amy, Sarah, Sarah, Sadia, Ashley, Joy, Precious, Annie and Laine (even though you're in Italy)! Love you!!*

Also, I found out this weekend that I am RELATED to the guy who is playing Superman in the upcoming "Superman Returns" movie. He is my brother-in-law's cousin (once removed). Holy crap, that makes us practically BFF!

That, along with my mom's movie deal...it's just a matter of time before my family has a reality show: "Livin' it up, Iowa Style".
